Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The fellowship is open to Indian nationals, including those residing outside India. Applicants should demonstrate competence in research and writing skills and must hold a graduate degree. If the graduate degree is not available, a provisional degree certificate and final mark sheet are required.

The fellowship offers five categories of themes each year:

  • Ancient Indian History
  • Medieval Indian History
  • Modern Indian History
  • Freedom Movement
  • Post-Independence Indian History

The fellowship duration is 12 months

The total grant amount is Rs. 15 Lakhs, payable in installments upon the completion of milestones by the fellows.

Applicants need to submit a completed application form, which includes basic details and other personal information. As part of the application process, they need to upload two PDF documents, each with a maximum of 500 words:

  1. A research proposal outlining the scope, significance, methodology, and expected contribution of the proposed research.
  2. A literature review that serves as a writing sample demonstrating research and writing skills. Any additional relevant documents can also be included.

Fellowship applications are evaluated based on the demonstrated competence of the applicant, the quality and feasibility of the proposed research project, the significance of the research topic, and the potential contribution to the field of Indian history.

Fellows will be expected to prepare a publish-worthy manuscript, for which they will hold the copyright. The Foundation will assist in getting the manuscript published, though the manuscript needs to meet the publishing requirements. However, the fellows are also free to publish their manuscripts themselves. A copy of the research material will be made available to the Foundation for its archival purposes.

No, there are no restrictions on the publication of research findings. Fellows are encouraged to disseminate their research through academic journals, peer-reviewed papers, publications, and various media platforms.

Yes, collaborative research projects involving multiple applicants are welcome. However, each applicant must submit a separate application form and fulfill the eligibility criteria individually.

Fellows receive guidance and support from the Foundation for Indian Historical and Cultural Research (FIHCR), access to relevant resources, networking opportunities with scholars and experts, and assistance in manuscript preparation for publication.

Fellows will hold the copyright for their work.
