Dr. Nisha Bhardwaj holds a Ph.D. in History from Delhi University. Her primary research interests include fair and festivals, literature, gender studies (specifically focusing on queens, concubines, and eunuchs), and the Mughal courts. She has published at least 19 articles and one book. The book analyzes the role of fair and festivals in shaping the political, economic, and cultural structures of the Rathore kingdom.

She has also researched on the role of Jain monks and merchants in the Mughal court, specifically examining how Jain monks leveraged their scholarship to influence Mughal emperors into formulating policies beneficial to the Jain community and the Jain Sangh. A monograph based on this research is scheduled for publication by ‘Sabhyata Samvad’ in the coming months. Additionally, she has studied the role of Kinnars (transgender communities) in Indian history, tradition, and culture; a book on this subject is currently under publication. Several of her articles are also due to be published in various journals soon.

She has a keen interest in reading historical documents and literature in Hindi, Rajasthani, Sanskrit, and Marathi. She is currently writing an article that goes beyond the well-known incidents of temple destruction by Aurangzeb to shed light on the history of renaming sacred Indian sites with Islamic names and the processes of Islamization. In future, she intends to conduct research on the political roles played by the queens and princesses of the Mughal emperors.
